Temples of Singapore Mangala Vihara
Mangala Vihara was a small side note in my travel guide. Too bad, because it is really worthwhile a visit. Located out in Eastern Singapore at the Eunos Station, the Shrine of Blessing is a beautiful house of worship in the Theravada tradition. Going back to 1960 as a small temple, the new shrine hall was established in 1999. A beautiful Burmese-style Buddha image is situated to the west of the Vihara, right in front of the Maha Bodhi Tree, which is a sapling from the Sri Maha Bodhi Tree of Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. It was planted on these grounds in 1962. Inside the hall is another beautiful Burmese-style Buddha image and a footprint of Buddha. The Sanchi Gateway, which forms the entrance of the temple, is modelled after the Sanchi Gate in India. As in most temples in Singapore I was most welcomed by local people who showed me around and made my visit very worthwhile. ........
